On April 4, 2024, I'll embark on a journey to Lucerne, Switzerland, where I'll undertake the creation of a mural on the Sentisteg pedestrian bridge at Kasernenplatz. Spanning approximately 25 feet by 70 feet, this endeavor marks the culmination of extensive planning and anticipation. Facilitated by the Lucerne Committee of the Chicago Sister Cities International, this project commemorates the 25th anniversary of the partnership between the two cities.
The significance of the bridge lies in its representation of the profound connection fostered by the partnership program, facilitating cultural exchange and understanding. For further details regarding the mural and the event, including images of the location, please refer to the provided link.
Central to the composition will be my signature approach of depicting ordinary individuals amidst a tapestry of evocative imagery, anchored by a recurring motif: the knot. This intricate knot, meticulously rendered to depict two distinct lengths of rope, symbolizes unity—where disparate elements come together harmoniously to form a cohesive whole. Dubbed the Love Knot, it serves as the focal point of the Lucerne mural. While I've previously featured this symbol in cities across the United States, Mexico, Puerto Rico, and Argentina, its inclusion in this mural marks its European debut.
